LEV Assessments

McCarthy Environmental Ltd provides a comprehensive nationwide service and assessment of all Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems (LEV) to HSG258.

All our LEV examiners hold a current British Occupational Hygiene Society P601 Proficiency Certificate in Initial Appraisal and Through Examination and Testing of Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems.

What are the legal requirements?

HSG258 Section 10 Thorough examination and test details the frequency and requirements of LEV testing. The frequency of the tests should be annually but no more than 14 monthly and some processes such as metal grinding are more frequent. The examination and test should be carried out by a competent person or contractor.

The examination and test comprises of three stages.

  1. Thorough visual and structural examination
  2. Measure of technical performance
  3. Assess control effectiveness

Adequate LEV records and reports must be prepared and held for a minimum of 5 years.

What if my system(s) do not comply with LEV regulations?

We will identify any defects with the system(s) and advise on any remedial works required. Where possible we will provide a quotation to carry out remedial works and to re-assess the system(s) on completion.
